Our daughter's experience was very empowering.  I think her teachers expected a lot from her and she rose to the occasion.  It did not feel like a trivial or ceremonial ritual--rather a deeply meaningful journey into her own relationship to Judaism.  It seems that compared to some of her pals at other synagogues, she got a much more individualized and in-depth view of Judaism.  I would highly recommend the program to any one who is looking for a warm, expansive, and inclusive Jewish Renewal B'nai Mitzvah experience.

We loved the unique style of the Chochmat haLev bnei mitzvah program and found that it was just the right fit for our child as he entered through this rite of passage.  The small group size allowed for a more connected and friendly environment and the nature program was an added bonus that brought the spirituality of the outdoors into daily living in a new way that continues to promote an adventurous mindset in our son.

                                              About our program

The Torat HaLev B’nei Mitzvah Program is a course of study and practice that prepares students to move through this important Jewish rite of passage.  Jewish tradition encourages learning, doing mitzvot, taking responsibility for and participating in community as signs of maturity.  At Chochmat HaLev we consider the process of becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah – a Child of the Commandments - an initiation - one that raises the status of the student to a fully participating community member. This means engaging in the ongoing process of learning, deep questioning, and the forming of ones own beliefs.  It means taking responsibility for one’s actions, cultivating wisdom and compassion, and finding ways to contribute positively to community, humanity, and the earth.  We acknowledge that this process involves the entire family.
