                                              CHOCHMAT HALEV BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Welcome to the Chochmat HaLev Board of Directors page.  The Board is a dedicated group of volunteers who meet monthly in a public meeting to serve the Chochmat HaLev community and ensure that our beloved institution thrives and is financially sustainable.  Board members are elected at an annual meeting of Chochmat members and serve two year terms.  Our last annual meeting was held on Sunday, January 22, 2012.

The officers of the Chochmat HaLev Board serve on the Executive Committee ("EC") with the Rabbi and the Executive or Interim Director.  The EC meets once or twice a month outside of Board meetings to assist in the running of our community.  We encourage all Chochmat members to get to know their Board representatives, and to contact us with any concern.

Have you ever served on the Chochmat HaLev Board of Directors?  The Chochmat community honors all who have served in this way.  Please contact the Board President so we are sure to have your contact information.

Jeff Fry [Membership Committee] first became a part of the CHL community through the year-long Jewish Spiritual Leadership training program in 1996. CHL has been his primary spiritual home ever since, despite some gaps of time not being in the East Bay. Through CHL, Jeff has developed a nourishing Jewish spiritual practice and deepened his relationship to the Holy One. He appreciates and is fed by opportunities to give back to CHL as a volunteer, including serving on the Board of Directors and chairing the Community Building Committee. Outside of CHL, Jeff is a founding member of Hidden Creek Cohousing in Oakland's Fruitvale neighborhood, works at Google as a software test engineer, and loves to spend time in the backcountry.

He sees his work with CHL as part of his practice – to help bring alignment between our beloved community’s purpose, its organizational structures and the way we express ourselves in the world. His goal is to build CHL into a vibrant, thriving center for renewal of Jewish spiritual ethics and culture that can nurture its members and through them, make our world a better place.

He continues to deepen his Jewish practice with the services, classes and lessons offered by the teachers and friends at his spiritual home. Kevin led the Strategic Planning process in 2005 and 2006 that created the new organizational structure for the community. Kevin has been active in other ad hoc committees at the request of the Board of Directors.

                                              Alix Wall, Vice President

                                              Picture
Alix Wall [Vice President, Executive Committee] is a journalist-turned personal chef who lives in Oakland. She first attended CHL’s High Holy Days services in 2000, shortly after moving to the Bay Area. In 2001, she went with 14 other CHL members to Dharamsala, India, to help put on a seder there for traveling Israelis. Many of the people on that trip became close friends. Alix continues to be active at CHL because she loves the music, the people, and quite frankly, she can’t imagine going anywhere else. Alix’s increased involvement at CHL began with serving on the search committee that hired Rabbi SaraLeya, and this is her third year of serving on the Board of Directors. Alix believes CHL is to thank for her amazing community. In her spare time, she is usually cooking, eating, doing yoga, hiking, reading, or spending time with her husband Paulie and friends.
