CHOCHMAT HALEV BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Welcome to the Chochmat HaLev Board of Directors page. The Board is a dedicated group of volunteers who meet monthly in a public meeting to serve the Chochmat HaLev community and ensure that our beloved institution thrives and is financially sustainable. Board members are elected at an annual meeting of Chochmat members and serve two year terms. Our last annual meeting was held on Sunday, January 22, 2012.
The officers of the Chochmat HaLev Board serve on the Executive Committee ("EC") with the Rabbi and the Executive or Interim Director. The EC meets once or twice a month outside of Board meetings to assist in the running of our community. We encourage all Chochmat members to get to know their Board representatives, and to contact us with any concern.
Have you ever served on the Chochmat HaLev Board of Directors? The Chochmat community honors all who have served in this way. Please contact the Board President so we are sure to have your contact information.

2012 Chochmat HaLev Board Members
Lauren Berkman
Janet Falk
Janet Falk has been actively involved in CHL since 2003, attending services, meditation, and classes. She previously served as Board President from 2006-2008. Janet has been involved in Jewish Renewal for 25 years. The last few years have been a time of substantial growth in her spiritual life and practice, which she attributes to being part of the Chochmat community. Janet's professional life has been the development of nonprofit affordable housing since 1975 and she has served on several nonprofit boards.
Lainey Feingold, President
Lainey Feingold [President, Executive
Committee, Fundraising Committee] has been part of the CHL community for about 10 years. She has been on the Board since 2007. Lainey unexpectedly found a spiritual home at CHL and is full of gratitude for the institution and the community. She is married to San Francisco author and housing activist Randy Shaw, has two daughters (ages 22 and 25) and, when not doing what she can to keep CHL sustainable, is a disability civil rights lawyer in Berkeley. Jeff Fry
Jeff Fry [Membership Committee] first became a part of the CHL community through the year-long Jewish Spiritual Leadership training program in 1996. CHL has been his primary spiritual home ever since, despite some gaps of time not being in the East Bay. Through CHL, Jeff has developed a nourishing Jewish spiritual practice and deepened his relationship to the Holy One. He appreciates and is fed by opportunities to give back to CHL as a volunteer, including serving on the Board of Directors and chairing the Community Building Committee. Outside of CHL, Jeff is a founding member of Hidden Creek Cohousing in Oakland's Fruitvale neighborhood, works at Google as a software test engineer, and loves to spend time in the backcountry.
Neil Goldberg
[Chair Communications Committee] Neil Goldberg is a designer of products, services and experiences through disciplines encompassing industrial design, graphic design, software design and architecture. He sees his work with CHL as part of his practice – to help bring alignment between our beloved community’s purpose, its organizational structures and the way we express ourselves in the world. His goal is to build CHL into a vibrant, thriving center for renewal of Jewish spiritual ethics and culture that can nurture its members and through them, make our world a better place. Kevin Morgan, Treasurer
Kevin Morgan [Treasurer, Executive Committee, Fundraising Committee] first started coming to Chochmat HaLev
in Spring of 2004 and describes his first experience
at Chochmat as a homecoming, “returning to the
village I never knew before”. He continues to
deepen his Jewish practice with the services, classes
and lessons offered by the teachers and friends at
his spiritual home. Kevin led the Strategic
Planning process in 2005 and 2006 that
created the new organizational structure for
the community. Kevin has been active in other
ad hoc committees at the request of the Board
of Directors.
