On June 7th, 2009, the Chochmat HaLev Community and our close friends gathered together in the sanctuary to formally welcome and bless our Rabbi SaraLeya Schley, and to make a Covenant of Light, a Brit Or, with each other. We dressed in purple, our Rabbi’s favorite color, and decorated a huppa, just for fun. We used the context of the parsha B’ha’alt kha as the basis for a beautiful ceremony put together by the Installation Committee. The Members of the Rabbi Search Committee lit a seven-branched menorah as Aaron once did, and we blessed our Rabbi much as the Israelites blessed the Levites in the portion. We presented the Rabbi with a new garment, and she was given wise words of blessing from several of her Rabbinical colleagues. A new song, written especially for the occasion, was performed by our Music Director. The Chorus blessed the occasion with their voices, and we all sang and danced a little. And of course we ate a good lunch afterwards.
You can still join our Covenant and sanctify our commitment to one another by pledging membership and contributing to the Brit Or campaign to sustain and build our community for the years ahead.
