Kate Allen, Office Manager & Rabbi's Assistant
Kate, a native of northeast Ohio, has an M.A. in liturgy and scripture from St. John's School of Theology in Collegeville, Minnesota. She came to the Bay Area to study liturgy at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley in 2007. Of the five languages she's studied during her academic pursuits, Hebrew has been the most difficult for her, but also the loveliest to hear aloud. The psalms are a special source of wisdom for her heart! Recently married, she was delighted to see that Chochmat HaLev was hiring. She had visited a Friday evening service in 2008 with a liturgy class (for which she was the teaching assistant) and loved the chant, the dancing, and the energy of divine and human play she found here. In rare moments when she's not otherwise occupied, you may find Kate thumbing through books on Jewish spirituality, history, culture, and prayer. If you stop by the office early in the afternoon, you'll probably get a chance to meet Kate's baby daughter, Anastasia!
